The San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) has opened its new Vision Lab, which aims to develop a fully integrated transportation system in the US city.
The SANDAG Vision Lab is a collaborative space for agency staff, elected officials, working groups, and industry leaders to discuss ideas, data, and tools.
Users have access to technologies including digital sketch planning tools, interactive maps and more to improve commute times and the environment.
“The Vision Lab is a place for SANDAG staff to work alongside transportation and technology experts and members of the public to develop the best transportation system in the world,” said SANDAG executive director Hasan Ikhrata.
Additionally, SANDAG has established an advisory panel to develop a strategy for a smart, efficient, and accessible transportation system that uses available and emerging technologies.
It will provide input on deploying technology solutions to solve transportation problems and determine how to future-proof the transportation system.
“If you want to design something that people will actually use, you have to bring together policy makers, planners, technologists, and the community in a collaborative way,” said Colleen Emmenegger, Vision Advisory Panel member and head of people centered automation at the UC San Diego Design Lab.
