Transport for London (TfL) has appointed Vix Technology to deliver the capital’s most significant upgrade of real-time passenger information (RTPI) displays in more than 10 years, following a competitive tender process.
The project will modernise London’s extensive digital display network, used by more than five million daily bus passengers, by introducing new LED, E-Paper and TFT display technologies.
Many of these models will be long-life and battery-powered, aligning with TfL’s sustainability goals.
Vix will also provide a centralised display management platform, enabling TfL to monitor, control and expand its RTPI estate with reduced waste and disruption.
The unified system will mark the UK’s largest adoption of the RTIG T047 standard for display management, allowing seamless integration of legacy and new hardware.
Michael Hart, chief revenue officer at Vix Technology, said: “This is about giving Londoners a better experience today while building a greener, smarter, more connected transport network for the future.”
The upgrade is set to begin with a pilot phase in winter 2025, with full rollout expected by 2027.
Achievements and innovations in traveller information systems will be recognised and celebrated at the fourth annual CiTTi Awards on 25 November 2025 at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London. Visit cittiawards.co.uk to learn more about this unmissable event for the UK’s transportation sector!
