Echoing the sentiment expressed by a number of French pressure groups, the Association of British Drivers has published a survey of its members. 85 per cent of those responding were opposed to road pricing under any circumstances. Peter Roberts, author of the 2007 petition against plans mooted by the then Labour government, said: “Drivers have drawn a line in the sand over road pricing and we should not have to re-fight this battle.”
Over 87 per cent of respondents also disagreed with the policy of tolls on new strategic road capacity.
