East West Rail Company (EWR) has confirmed plans to deliver a new station at Tempsford, with the new station set to be delivered up to five years earlier than planned.
The East-West railway, a line between Oxford and Cambridge, is being built to encourage investment along the UK government’s ‘growth corridor’ between Oxford, Milton Keynes, Bedford and Cambridge.
EWR stated that proposals on the site options and detailed design of Tempsford station is under review after the latest public consultation on EWR ended January 2025.
Feedback from this consultation is now being analysed and the final design of the railway, including the location of the station at Tempsford.

This will be presented at a statutory consultation which is due to be held in the next 12 months, EWR reports
Earlier this week [29 January], the chancellor of the exchequer Rachel Reeves reiterated the government’s support for EWR towards improving urban mobility, regional connectivity and economic growth.
CEO of EWR David Hughes said: “The Chancellor’s decision highlights the crucial role East West Rail will play in unlocking growth for the UK economy by providing infrastructure which can support new jobs and much needed affordable housing, as well as supporting this region’s world leading life sciences cluster.”
