Juice Americas Inc (Juice), a subsidiary of charging solutions provider Juice Technology AG, has announced the availability of its portable electric vehicle (EV) charger, J+ Booster 2, in North America.
Juice reports that its newest portable charger, which was developed at the firm’s Switzerland-based research centre, can help charge a vehicle using any traditional power socket and has been specifically adapted for the North American grid.
“The J+ Booster 2 is like a Swiss army knife of EV charging technology and makes any concerns about vehicle range a thing of the past,” said Christoph Erni, founder and CEO of Juice Technology AG.
“After all, electricity is available everywhere: you just have to make it accessible.”
The charger weighs 2.2lbs (one kilogram) and is reportedly made from military-grade aluminium and has an in-cable control box that can withstand being driven over. The charger is also equipped with a temperature sensor to help prevent overheating.
J+ Booster 2 comes with eight adapter plugs, which Juice claims are compliant with the National Electrical Manufacturers Association’s (NEMA) standards and are designed for easy attachment.
According to the company, both the charger and its patented connector are dust and water resistant, with the adapter plugs being programmed for fully automatic charging at the outlet according to the available current.
Juice also claims the charger can deliver power ranging from 720W to almost 10kW, meaning a full charge is estimated to take four to six hours.
Portable chargers can potentially mitigate the effects of unevenly distributed EV charging infrastructure by allowing motorists to charge in more locations.
